Sevcan Turunç Handmade Ice Cream! Refreshing Flavor!

Sevcan worked in many different jobs to contribute to the household and support her children’s education. Before the earthquake, she cleaned houses, worked in grocery stores, and embroidered wedding dress tops in a wedding dress shop. Most recently, she worked in the cake, pastry and dessert section of a supermarket. She loved her job, but her workplace was destroyed in the February 6 earthquake.
There was no place for her to work after the earthquake, but she continued to look for ways to work. Together with the women in her neighborhood, they decided to set up a bazaar and sell there. When the bazaar was established, Sevcan observed the sales and thought about which products she could sell. She realized that no one was selling ice cream at the bazaar. The fact that her children loved ice cream made her think that she could do this with them in a fun way.
“I chose this job based on my observations. It would not be nice to have two people selling the same product in a small bazaar area. I don’t want to violate anyone’s rights, especially when we women are doing this job. When I saw that no one was selling ice cream, I wanted to take advantage of this gap.”
Making and selling ice cream was not only a job for her, but also an opportunity to spend time with her children. Working with her own children and seeing other children happy made this job more meaningful for her. However, missing materials and inadequate conditions made her work difficult. She had to constantly set up a table and borrow materials such as thermos from her neighbors to continue her work. Despite the difficult conditions, she continued to sell ice cream both to provide income for her family and to enable her children to get away from the post-earthquake environment and do something different. After Sevcan was accepted to the MaviKalem program, the materials she needed were provided and she was able to do her job more easily.
“The ice cream truck you provided made my job much easier. I didn’t have to carry things all the time anymore, I didn’t have to take things from people. I can load all my materials into my vehicle and sell ice cream on the streets and at bazaars with my children.”
Sevcan currently works in a supermarket to contribute to the household income and her children’s education. In the summer season, she continues to sell ice cream. Currently, she has to contract with another business to make her ice cream. However, her biggest goal is to buy her own ice cream machine and produce independently.
His dream is to continue selling ice cream on the road with his vehicle after he gets his ice cream machine!
