Gülseren Kosunan: Work does not end at home and at work

Gülseren has been working for thirty-two years. All she wants is to guarantee the future of her four children. With the earthquake, she lost both her home and her workplace. “I have such a financial loss that I cannot calculate how much it is,” she says. 

“I am a mother, a worker and a housewife”

When she got married, she started working in her husband’s market. Before the earthquake, she stored most of the products at the market and some at home. But she lost them all in the earthquake.  Even though she had health problems, she thought that she could not do nothing to survive and educate her daughter who was preparing for the university exam. Together with her husband, she started selling in the car. She started buying and selling small products. Then she moved to a small container. She created an order by arranging the products she sold on the boards. Not even the customers themselves could easily find which product was where. 

“I met mavikalem through my daughter. I thought it would help me. I was very happy when the shelves arrived, my space was narrow but now it was organized. There were frequent power cuts, I used to go to the shopkeeper next door for scales. Now I have a rechargeable scale, my work has become much easier.” 

He increased his products and varieties. He moved the market to a slightly larger container and continues to run it.
